Leather is more durable and will also eventually biodegrade. Plastic, aka Vegan Leather, is going to outlive us all and could end up harming animals in the long run.

Vegan leather is truly just plastic, which is rarely recycled and in vegan leather form it's impossible to recycle—there's essentially no sustainable vegan leather. 

Depending on where the products are produced there can also be a concern for the people in the production of vegan leather. Synthetic leather such as PVC is not breathable – think sweaty, stinky feet. The quality can vary making vegan leather less durable. PVC and PU can't biodegrade.

Other vegan leathers are polyvinyl chloride aka PVC leather. Both often come with the threat of micro-plastic pollution due to the amount of energy, water, and chemicals used to produce fake leather materials. The plastics release harmful toxins during manufacturing that can get into the air and into water.

Synthetic vegan leather is made from petroleum-based plastics, most commonly: polyurethane (PU) or polyvinyl chloride (vinyl or PVC). Like all plastics, PU and PVC are derived from petroleum or natural gas.
